A gentleanon was kind enough to write up this synopsis of the project for me. Take a moment to read it.
---
>what is infinity next
infinity next is newer and better software that is going to replace the current software that currently runs 8chan.
head on over to infinitydev.org to get a better understanding of the project as a whole, and use https://infinitydev.org/cp/donate
when you get ready to donate.
>who the fuck is josh
josh has been hired by hotwheels and is going to be the lead developer for infinity next. he previously made two large contributions to the
original Infinity Development Group on github among other contributions. if you're interested in learning more about
josh please refer to his bio at the bottom of this page https://infinitydev.org/contribute.
>will hotwheels contribute to this
yes he will be working on infinity next along with josh
>the layout on infinitydev.org is shit
the layout you see on infinitydev.org isn't at all close to anything final, with that said
there's no need to worry about the current chan format you know and love changing drastically.
>there's a feature i dont like in development
when it comes to this project feedback is very important, and any concerns about possible
features should be raised in the infinity next thread on /operate/ on 8chan or your could use
/infinity/ on infinitydev.org to voice concerns. its worth noting that with enough user concern
any possible features would be subject to modification or outright removal.
>i recently gave hotwheels some bitcoin, what happened to that
those bitcoin you donated will be going towards the development of infinity next.with each subsequent milestone
hotwheels will be gradually transferring funds to josh, this also works as a means of accountability in-case of
any issues that arise during development.
>i dont see any mention of this feature i suggested awhile back
it'd be tough to keep track of all the various feature requests/suggestions that are
passing through 8chan at any given time so its likely yours was missed. if you'd like
to take another crack at getting your ideas noticed then the stickied infinity next
thread on /operate/ or /infinity/ on infinitydev.org would be the perfect place to try.
>can i help with development
anyone is welcome to voice their thoughts and perhaps lend their talents within regards
to infinity next. some of the best places to do that are the stickied infinity next thread
on /operate/ , the /infinity/ board on infinitydev.org or the github page https://github.com/infinity-next/infinity-next/
>when will this project be finished
its estimated this project will be in development for six months and will be in beta for 1 month, although its
possible that development could progress at a faster pace than expected.
>how can i donate
the fastest way to donate would be via this page https://infinitydev.org/cp/donate on infinitydev.org.
if you prefer to give your money directly to hot wheels then you could use 8chan's Bitcoin address 1NpQaXqmCBji6gfX8UgaQEmEstvVY7U32C now if your not at all familiar with bitcoin then please
refer to this page here https://8ch.net/bitcoin.html.you may also refer to the info at the bottom
of this page https://8ch.net/faq.html
with your help 8chan can continue to grow and reach its ultimate potential

Okay. PHP.... But why Laravel? Is there any particular reason why you didnt go with Codeigniter instead? They both use the Memcached lib dont they? The difference is that CodeIgniter is atleast 7, 8, maybe even 9 times faster at requests per sec. Im just really curious why, after you chose to use a framework, you chose Laravel when its even slower than Rails.
Your credentials are on the site itself. The fact that you started from scratch, and built this virtually by yourself, is impressive. I dont think many PHP experts would even dare. They would just fork something else.
So why did you use Laravel? My thing is Design and Tech, so I whole-heartedly agree that speed, flexibility, etc. should be #1. Any additional features should be scrutinized. The things you mentioned in the index page got me hyped.
You say you want people to contribute.. If I didnt know any better I'd say this is just a pep project where you can showcase your skills and also increase them in the process. You say you care about the "community". You want to be an Infinity - Next leader? Why didnt you add your email address? Or a phone #? Is there even an IRC or whatever it is you guys use? Why isnt it embedded here? How would one reach you directly?
I haven't participated in any chan since 06 maybe 07... It was a different internet back then. There wherent (on halfchan) all these "facebook" threads every 20 min with low grade "selfies". The porn that was posted was always of a high resolution and quality. No one ever mentioned the word "memes" or even "oldfags", ever, but everything in halfchan was in actuallity literally better in everyway than it is today. The thing you used to read the most, over and over, was that you dont talk about halfchan in real life. Not just in b but in all the boards people repeated it like a slogan. Like something they where proud of. It was the truest of memes. People made content that was actually funny and interesting, so I actively participated. I was enthusiatic when someone reposted a pic I knew I made, and I still am now. Not out of any feelings of accomplishment, just because of my sense of humor. I would make myself laugh. But the things that show up in chans and reddit now are just humiliating and cringe worthy. Dont even mention the generics in tumblr and such.
Ive thought about it. I feel like 1 out of 2 things have happened.. Either the original fags that where actually creative, and funny, and insipired me, have just gotten old and dont use chans anymore, or they too have gone exclusively into lurking mode for their own reasons, as I have myself.
This post is like my first post ever. I feel like it means something to me. A number of years back I visited a friend who had moved away. Back in middle school, he taught me everything I knew about html. He was a real nerd he owned an anime site and he even knew PHP. He was into some REDICULOUSLY weird porn, and none of it was hentai! He became like my brother. Well, when I went to visit I noticed he just wasnt the same person anymore. The strangest feeling, as if I'm still exactly the fucking same after all these years, but maybe the people around him or the enviroment itself just changed him. Cant explain it. Weird. Then out of left field, he wants to show me this "cool site"... and he pulls up half chan. I pretend for like 30 min to be disgusted by the images hes showing me (even though I had seen them each a thousand times before (old pasta)) all the while Im trying to get out of the room and show signs as if I'm feeling uncomfortable. I felt like it was just emberassing. I thought, why is he trying to show me this? He explains to me he heard about the site on the news, and at that moment I just knew that half chan was over. It was dead. And my instincts where right. I didnt even feel like going on there anymore. Not that I had been frequently visiting by that time, but this guy that used to be so cool was now so generic, that I just felt like I lost something. Now that I knew that he knew about half chan. I was there I had watched it slowly grow stale, and now it finally hit the mainstream.
I think its finally time for the next best thing. Everything is corruptable in a cyberspace composed mostly of garbage, and all good things are bound to change. Full chan is already the NEXT chan. It has features that half chan will never have. Ever. So you should focus on replicating that core functionality and getting infinity - next on par with what already exists. THEN you can implement those bonus features that are only possible with the new system that youve written from scratch. All that fancy password stuff is all good, but it shouldnt be priority.
A lot of people fear change as you mentioned but thats probably because change usually isnt necessarily a good thing....... most of the time. And theres usually something that must be lost in order to gain something else and thats not very efficient for anybody, is it? Dont worry about people not liking you. You sound like one of those generics. Keep making it a faster and better mirror of what 8chan is and then you can rest assured that the haters are probably from reddit. I dont have a problem with that site btw. Its just not my type of site. Just like half chan and facebook arent my type of sites.
Ive finally convinced myself to learn PHP and Ruby mainly because no matter what my personal feelings may be, knowing PHP is just a necessary skill for the modern man. I was thinking about a project that I could take on to get me hyped and I remembered this site. I noticed from what I read that you really seem to be thinking ahead and thats always good. I read something about confederation and nodes. Sounds very complex. But atleast you are a man on a mission, with a vision. Thats all it takes. But the VAST majority of the users just want entertainment. A cool place to hang out and talk about bitches. And if youre really seeking contribution to this project, this site and this page primarily need a serious revamp. They are the face of your project.
I hope to learn more from you in the near future. Your Web technologies prowess seems top notch. I skimmed through the source page and thought it was a lot more organized than any other PHP code Ive yet seen on Git, and this is from a guy that finds PHP more confusing than C/C++. The site does have a more modern look but I'm sure that a more 'vintage' theme will always be optional. Keep up the excellent work.
Damn it feels fucking good to type some gibberish
